Investment Operations Manager – Transfers In – 12-month contract

About the Role

An exciting new opportunity has become available for an experienced Financial Services Manager who would be interested in a 12-month contract. This role is with a leading Investment Management firm and they are looking for someone who has strong leadership, organisational and planning skills gained within a previous role. The Transfers in Manager is required to oversee the running of the Transfers in department, making sure that procedures are followed in line with industry regulations, ensuring no loss to the company or client. Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the department, ensuring it is run in a professional manner and that the performance targets set are appropriately challenging and ensuring, in conjunction with senior management, that risk is managed effectively
  • Provision of accurate and timely management information, ensuring that MI remains appropriate and that this is validated as correct prior to submission to management
  • Interpret department performance/statistics /data and use information to manage department effectively
  • Suggest and deliver objectives to meet team/department goals
  • Provide support guidance and coaching to team members; encouraging staff to expand their knowledge of their role/ the wider organisation by way of general training and/or examinations
  • Ensure that departmental procedures are documented and remain appropriate and that these are reviewed on a regular basis and updated when necessary
  • Ability to make informed decision regarding errors of processing, considering business risk and client needs. Fast escalation of system and process issues with suggested /recommended solution
  • Full understanding of the CASS rules that affect the department and escalation to management of any issues that may incur a breach, notifying the RIM CASS Contact Group when required.
  • Effective use of Transfers Database and internal computer systems, including Illumas
  • Fully proficient with end to end transfer’s process including settlement process
  • Must demonstrate clear working knowledge of stock matrix and of UK and foreign settlement system (Transfers).
  • Negotiate terms with counterparties in respect of trade and settlement dates and to resolve issues
  • Ability to manage and demonstrate initiative in leadership
  • To oversee any projects for the department (I.T. based or otherwise)
  • Liaise with peers to ensure that any wider business issues are dealt with in a professional manner
  • Ensure company policies for holidays & sickness are adhered to, ensuring that there is enough staff within the department to cover holidays/busy periods.
  • To oversee and manage all CASS related processes, systems and controls within the business area, in support of the SMF18, ensuring that procedures are always an accurate reflection of working practise and any CASS issues are escalated and resolved as and when necessary
  • Such other duties as Senior Management may require from time to time

Key requirements / skills:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in financial services
  • Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) (or the willingness to work towards it) is essential as the role falls under scope of the FSA Training & Competence regulations
  • Full understanding of the CASS rules
  • Experience of Illumas
  • Strong leadership, organisational and planning skills gained within a previous role
  • Conscientious with a flexible approach to work
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • A good understanding of risk assessments
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Access, Word and Excel
  • Demonstrable ability to deal with change, both process and resource related, with experience of regularly assessing and improving team processes and leading and delivering operational projects
